iRhythm functions in US medical equipment as a digital healthcare provider that designs and commercializes device-based technology for ambulatory cardiac monitoring. The company is informing over 360,000 individuals that cyberattackers stole their personal data. The data breach was detected on June 8. The former occurred in third-party hosted enterprise applications that stored certain iRhythm data.
A probe found that hackers accessed and transferred patient data from the affected applications between June 3 and June 8. The compromised data includes patients’ names, addresses, email addresses, dates of birth, and phone numbers, as well as iRhythm account and device data, such as account numbers, serial numbers, insurance numbers, and dates of service.
iRhythm has begun coordinating with law enforcement and external cybersecurity specialists to assess the scope of the incident and remediation steps. The organization stated that the hackers contacted it on June 9, threatening to leak the stolen data online unless a ransom was paid.
The organization stated “As iRhythm previously reported, the company has not identified any impact to our products, our clinical or medical device systems, our connections to customers, our manufacturing and distribution operations, patient safety, or our ability to meet patient needs.” iRhythm, known for its Zio Patch cardiac monitoring sensor reported $224.2 million in Q2 revenue.
