Cybersecurity Issue in Leading New Mexico Hospital
Share

A leading hospital network in New Mexico attempted to fix a cybersecurity issue on Monday. The former was compelled to dispatch ambulances to alternative hospitals. For your information the state was deprived of an emergency department that could treat the most serious injuries.
The concerned hospital network does around 900,000 outpatient visits as well as gets 100,000 emergency room visits annually. Note that it operates the state’s sole Level 1 trauma center.
The University of New Mexico Health System informed people not to visit its main hospital in Albuquerque and canceled appointments at its more than 30 clinics. The former stated that it was working to resolve the issue, the extent and nature of which was not immediately clear.
Presbyterian Healthcare Services and Lovelace Health System, 2 other leading healthcare providers in New Mexico, stated they were coordinating with the UNM Health System, including taking additional patients.
Several UNM Health System employees stated they heard messages across their computers while working late Monday morning that claimed to have stolen student and employee data and patient details.
The cyberincident occurred amid increasing concern about the security of digital systems that support essential services, ranging from banking to medical care.
