In an alarming development, Anthropic’s Claude share links were found in search engine results. This is a privacy concern for Claude users who shared confidential conversations. The Significance of noindex Tag

Claude’s share functionality creates public URLs so users can dispatch chats to others. However proper noindex tags were absent from these pages. If the links were placed in social media, discussion forms or accidental posts search engines were able to crawl as well as index the chat content. As per developer Om Patel, a single line of code would have prevented the private chats from becoming public. This issue had happened to ChatGPT last year. However, OpenAI fixed the issue quickly.

Incident Cannot be Classified as a Data Breach

Note that Claude’s shared chats are private by default. This was not a data breach incident. Developer Om Patel stated on X that confidential material such as CVs, internal organization documents, cryptocurrency credentials as well as API keys could be accessed.
