Ahold Delhaize Hit by Cyberattack

Retail major Ahold Delhaize stated that it took some of its systems offline after a cyberattack. The former has over 9,400 stores across the US, Europe and Indonesia. The organization has around 400,000 employees. Ahold serves its customers via physical retail stores as well as online.

The company stated “Our teams are taking steps to assess and mitigate the issue. This includes taking some systems offline to help protect them.” The former added “Our teams are working with urgency to investigate the incident and restore affected systems safely. As they make progress in assessing and mitigating the issues, we are in the process of starting a controlled re-launch of certain systems.”

The attack, which began Monday, continued into Tuesday and Wednesday as well. The company has not revealed the severity of the attack or its origins. The former stated it was coordinating with internal teams as well as external cybersecurity professionals to restore its sites to a normal state.

This is the 2nd cybersecurity attack on Ahold Delhaize in recent times. In November 2024, the ransomware group INC Ransom exfiltrated the personal, financial as well as health data of more than 2.2 million persons from Ahold.
