For your knowledge, BAE Systems is Europe’s Biggest defense contractor. The company designs and manufactures military technology for the UK and US defense departments. It is also a leading provider of enterprise IT, cloud infrastructure as well as cybersecurity services.
Recently, BAE Systems has experienced a cybersecurity incident. It has disrupted an important service utilized by federal bankruptcy courts across the US. The production as well as delivery of official bankruptcy notices nationwide has been halted.
The disrupted system is the Bankruptcy Noticing Center (BNC) which prepares and distributes electronic and paper notices for bankruptcy courts across the nation. Note that BAE systems operates the services on behalf of the US federal judiciary.
The Administrative Office of the US Courts (AOC) stated “BAE is actively investigating this incident and working to restore operations.” A BAE Systems spokesperson stated on Friday that the company is “aware of a security incident that is isolated to the BNC system” and has taken immediate steps to address it. BAE Systems is “coordinating closely” with the courts on the response, the spokesperson added.
As per the US Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Texas, BAE first told the Administrative Office about the problem late on October 9. Many bankruptcy courts posted notices on October 13, calling it a service disruption or interruption. None of them mentioned a cybersecurity incident.
