There was a recent attack by ShinyHunters group targeting the FBI. The former said it had accessed the FBI’s jobs site and got details on many agents and job applicants. The cyberattacker stated that they conducted the attack because the FBI had published a report warning organizations regarding ShinyHunter’s nefarious activities. The attack was believed to have happened because of a failure to patch vulnerabilities in PeopleSoft software.

A Canadian cybersecurity professional was taken into custody last week in the US. The reason behind his arrest was suspected involvement in ShinyHunters attacks that included the FBI hack. This is the 3rd ShinyHunters suspect arrested recently. One alleged member was arrested in the Netherlands last month. Another suspect was arrested in Jordan on September 28th.

The suspect was identified as Ed Dubrovsky a Canadian cybersecurity professional. His career has involved aiding clients to negotiate with ransomware attackers.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the arrest of a “suspected co-conspirator” in the recent ShinyHunters cyberattack on FBIjobs.gov. Patel stated “We will continue to work closely with our partners to disrupt what’s left of the ShinyHunters group and their associates, no matter where they operate.”
