Advantest Reveals Data Breach

Advantest is a Japanese company that supplies automatic test equipment utilized by semiconductor manufacturers. Its technology tests chips as well as other electronic components prior to deployment in commercial products. Among its clients are Intel and Samsung. Advantest’s breach is yet another instance that demonstrates that organizations supporting critical technology supply chains are attractive ransomware targets.
The Japanese company stated that hackers stole personal data from its servers in the February 2026 cyberattack. The former is now intimating the individuals affected by the data breach. The company now disclosed that attackers stole personally identifiable information, including names, dates of birth, contact information, SSNs, passport and driver’s license numbers, and medical and financial information.
Advantest stated “We have no information suggesting that your PII has been disclosed publicly or otherwise misused.” “However, this incident may have placed you at increased risk of identity theft or fraud.” Note that the company has not announced how many individuals were impacted by the data breach.
The Japanese company first disclosed the cybersecurity incident on February 19, 2026. The former said it had detected unusual activity in its IT environment on February 15, 2026 and immediately activated its incident-response procedures. Affected systems were isolated and external cybersecurity specialists were brought in to investigate the breach.
